NC16 - the swimming instructor

I wouldn't have caught this play last Thursday if not for the free tickets that i got from a friend's friend's friend (don't ask, too confusing), who was in the production crew.

Apparently, some sponsors who were supposed to turn up cancelled last minute and they had many free tickets to give away. I think most of the people were there FOC.

Cheapskates. Like me.

Thank God for friends who think of me in times of er... freebies?

Anyway, i've captured the play's essence in the following drawing. I was working on it the entire morning, in the midsts of answering calls, using PAINT!

-sweat-

Too used to the ease of Photoshop.

Basically, it's a story about a go-getting advertising executive (Dave) and a vivacious rich girl (Jen), meeting in a pool one day and falling for the same guy, a down-to-earth swimming instructor (Guan).

Sidetracking abit, everytime someone said "Guan", i would feel like shouting out "GUANTANAMERA!"

Back to the topic, before anyone thinks, "Eeeyer, gay play, yucks gross ew", it's actually so much more than that! The play was an emotional rollercoaster (all three of the actors had emo scenes. Jen had 2, of which she actually cried in one! PRO!) and themes like loss, death, love, disintegration of the family unit, and of cos lust were present.

When the play first began, i felt that Isabella Chiam, who played Jen, had an easy role because all she had to do was some over-the-top bimbo/sex-crazed acting. However, as the play progressed, she blow me away with her subtler scenes and when she was talking about how screwed up her family was, she actually had tears in her eyes! I was like WHOA!

Lim Wee Hong, who played Guan, was seriously ah beng to the max. Throughout the play, i felt like slapping him cos his accent was so typically kopitiam!

Jeremy Lee, or Dave, had the much tougher role of being the emotionally scarred individual who tries not to fall for Guan, although he was still kinda stiff in his acting.

But for those who're not interested in the depth of the play, just go watch it for the FLESH la!

picture grabbed from this site.

Bods.bodynits was one of the sponsors and the 3 of them were wearing nothing but skimpy trunks, bikinis and boardshorts from the brand!

For the girls (and some guys), Guan and Dave had on more tanning oil than clothing! And Dave even exposed his butt in a shower scene! -RAWR-

For the guys (and some girls), Jen was a naughty little minx, thrusting her boobs and butt in the faces of the audience, all while flipping her hair and looking nonchalant about it! And it didn't hurt one bit that she looked like Felicia Chin with a dash of ang mohness in her features. HAWT!

The play's running till 18th, so if you have the time, go catch it!

my chinese is terrible enough...

... and yet i have to handle old parents who can only speak chinese, but understands terms like "logistic" and "fax".

That's not the worse thing.

I have to handle the ching chong students from freaking CHINA!

so apt this picture since my company is from Taiwan.

I must make it clear that i'm in no way prejudiced against China people, it's just that my Chinese capabilities are seriously limited. If you know me, you'll know.

The very first time i encountered a China student, i had so much trouble just translating the sentence, "You have to go to the website and follow the instructions".

In the end, i told her, "Ni yao qu wang lu na bian geng zhe instructions."

She replied with a, "Er... Wo bu zhi dao ni zhai shuo shen me", in that cheena China slang.

URGH!

I also want to tell her that i cannot understand her!

Eh, don't get me wrong, i'm not ashamed of my Chinese heritage. It's been a month since i ORDed and until now, i was adamnant on leaving my hair black and undyed, as a weak attempt against conformity.

That's until now.

I'm having mixed feelings about this Supercuts voucher that i've received via Singtel for my birthday.

It has a 40% off on ALL CHEMICAL SERVICES, which basically only means dye hair to me la. Why would i wanna rebond or perm?

So should i rejoice and go ahead to utilise the voucher (i really want blonde streaks, brown is so bleurgh), or grit my teeth and stand firm to my resolution of not treating my hair as a canvas and not conform to the image of an FASS student?

Speaking of that, i've still not brought up the determination (and courage) to pierce my ears. I need someone to drag me there!

Ya anyway, ADVISE ME PLEASE!

And anyone wanna shamelessly offer themselves up as my "guest" to bring to the 1 for 1 haircut thing?

Interested applicants pls apply straight to me before the end of the week thanks!

I wanna cut hair before my party!

On a totally irrelevant note, i've been pretty much bored in the office and i'm hooked on miniclip.com!

Particularly Frost Bite and Sling.

Seriously they're great time fillers for when there are no calls, and sometimes i even continue playing when i'm on the phone, since the questions are so generic that i can just answer without thinking.

So all those bored in the office or anywhere else, go play to your hearts content!

hossan and homosexuals

What a provocative title eh, and no, the two are not connected.

Anyway, it's late and i'm bushed.

Blog again!

**********

Went to watch another play with the gang on Wednesday.

This time, it was Multiple Personalities Disorder!, a one man show by Hossan Leong.

The ratio of the number of plays versus the number of movies i watched this year is now 2:0.

Back to the play, it wasn't as fabulous as Chestnuts, but it was quite enjoyable nonetheless. I know it's been said to death, but it's true that the funniest bits were the ones when he was himself, bitching about this and that.

The parts where he played someone else at best induced a chuckle out of me. Others were plain unfunny. But then again, he's a multi-talented actor/singer/comedian, and people will flock to see his show.

We sure did.

I aspire to have my own show someday, where i just talk rubbish like i always do and people will laugh, even though it might be a little bit rude. But then again i'm not multi-talented, so people might not flock.

**********

I read on the newspapers, also on Wednesday that there's been a new breakthrough in the study of why homosexuals exist.

The article debunks the belief that being gay is by choice and claims that homosexuality is biological. Scientists study rams and found that significant portions of the group were either asexual, bisexual or homosexual.

This could mean that while Jack and Ennis were going at it brokebackedly in their tents, outside, the rams were having a romp too.

In case you don't know, rams are male sheep.

The article's quite interesting, highlighting not only the scientific breakthroughs, but also those in the social point of view. They question whether society would easier accept gays if they come to accept that it's not a perverse sexual preference, but just an additional sexual orientation.

Eh. So chim.

**********

I've been hard at work sending my resumes to whatever japalang schools i could find that's remotely situated around my area.

I hope i didn't sound too desperate. But my sentbox looks damn desperate.

If i don't get replies soon, i'm gonna send another batch of those emails out to schools further away from me.

But i realise that even if i get a relief teaching stint, i'll be jobless during the June holidays!

Anyone have any good lobangs?

much ado about nothing

My friend asked me to watch this youtube video cos it was funny.

At first i didn't understand why it was funny, only that it was about a maid, so i asked him and he kept saying "Maria Clara".

At first, i thought that was the maid's name.

Apparently, it's the name of the national costume of Philippine. Watch the video and you'll understand.

*****************************

My life has been pretty uneventful these days, thus the lack of updates.

Camp's been bleak as the campmates who were from my batch but ORDing in Feb are clearing leave. That leaves me in the mercy of the junior batches (who are all a few years older than me cos they came from ITE), who treats me like crap.

Seriously, they're giving me more and more shitty duties, even though i'm next in line to exit. I treated them so nicely in the past and i can't believe those dunno how to ying shui si yuan fuckers are turning around and fucking me in the face.

Urgh, i so didn't wanna go to camp that i "came down" with diarrhoea(i had to look at the medicine packet for the spelling) and flu and had to go down to the polyclinic to see the doctor.

While there, i think i caught something worse because the moment i came home, i really got got really sick.

My nose is going to fall off because of the constant blowing and sneezing.

*************************

Anyway, mabs came to me with the usual photoshop request, to make her into a spokesperson like how i always do to myself.

This time, the woman wanted to be spokesperson for Peugeot.

*Your wish is my command*

**************************

I received an email which i found to be quite interesting, and actually quite true for my part.

Is it accurate for you?

Listening

I don't want you to think of me as an eavesdropper so I'll just say that I'm listening to music instead of my neighbour's maid flirting with my other neighbour's driver.

Reading

I like it when people think of me as an intellectual so I will list a bunch of intellectual-sounding books here, even those I don't plan to read.

Viewing

Since I can't list my porn collection here, I'll just leave it this way until I can force myself to watch non-pornographic stuff, which may or may not happen.
