THE WEST WING
I'm gonna be in a performance called The West Wing running from 4th to 8th April, 8pm, with a special matinee performance on the 5th of April , 2pm, at the University Cultural Centre.
I'm playing a witless monk and i'm singing too! Come support me k!
You can get tickets at www.sistic.com at $18, $20 and $23 for the night shows and $15 for the matinee!
A short synopsis of the opera, which is IN ENGLISH btw:
A controversial Chinese Opera play written in the Tang Dynasty will be staged for the first time in Asia in English, and with contemporary dance and music (featuring songs by the Pussy Cat Dolls, Sean Kingston, James Blunt, Alicia Keys, Queen, ACDC and Bon Jovi, just to name a few.)
Titled Xi Xiang Ji, or Meeting the Fox Fairy in English, the play was banned during the period of three dynasties, for its risqué and liberal political and sexual content.
For the first time, the National University of Singapore is bringing this play to the stage – but with a modern twist.
In its original Chinese text, the play was performed in closely rhymed verse. Here, NUS has taken the bold step to interpret the play in English, using Shakespearean heroic couplets to mimic its traditional rhyme.
Considered by many scholars to be the best piece of Chinese opera in existence, it is with great pride that the National University of Singapore stages this controversial text in a performance that will be filled with lust, comedy and tragedy.
This is a story of young love, a story of determination, and above all, a story that will prove to audiences that Chinese opera is, quite simply, not “dead.”
I promise it would be a good show!!!

cobwebs indeed
I have been extremely busy to the max guys! Not dead yet, but just nearly!
Just finished with Cheerobics last sunday! Didn't get a placing in the team and mixed group categories but we got 1st runner-up for our all girl group! So proud of them!
Now i can concentrate on my theatre production rehearsals without the weight of the competition on me!
Anyway, i'm sure those in NUS have seen the bright red posters around school with people wearing chinese opera costumes in them. That's the production i'm in! Come watch me alright?
Details at THIS website!
I'm singing and acting very silly, so you can come laugh at me!

occupational hazard

Usually when i channel surf and i stumble upon Chinese opera on Channel 8, i'd immediately think, "Eyer, next!"
This morning, when i stumbled across Chinese opera, i automatically switched back to some lame show on Channel 5, then did a double take back to 8.
You see, i'm involved in a theatre production that is based on a Chinese opera, so i need to research on the movements and sets. Come watch it ok?

i cannot do cartwheels
But apparently i can do the rest of the jumps and stunts. I just have to get used to the 1, 2, down, up timing and catching girls falling out from the sky without subconsciously siam-ing.
Yup.
Oh! I forgot to mention that i was at cheerleading training camp over the course of Friday and Saturday?
I am now aching in places i never thought i had muscles.
But it's fun fun fun! Never expected myself to be able to do such stuff, but it seems like i an catching up pretty quickly. One of the more senior guys even commented that i should join dance.
Ha! He must be kidding! Me + dance is a combi i'd never have thought up! I always thought i had 2 left feet. Apparently not quite.

i've been alphanumerised!
ACK!
I have lost my identity!
"You don't have to write your name on the answer booklet, only your matriculation number", says the invigilator.
What's my name?!? I don't remember!!! All i remember is my matric number!!!
Two more to go two more to go!

no time lots of work no time lots of work no time lots of...
Ok, let's all move on ok? The issue in my previous post has been more or less resolved.
Then i fell damn terribly sick for a week plus, before i gave in and saw the doctor, which then charged me for $27 worth of pills.
Then i had to rush to churn out a project (which i failed. right. let's not talk about that.) and two essays.
I've yet to complete two projects (the first one's setting a precedence i feel), i have two upcoming tests and a script to memorise.
Damn screwed, i am.

clar(a)ty cafe

A mini-og outing to celebrate Jerome's birthday became a glutton's feast, with humongous sides at Miss Clarity Cafe and an overdose of desserts at some bugis shop.
Clara kept saying that we were eating at her cafe, thus the title.
Jerome couldn't finish his almond paste and we tried to make abstract art with the sesame and peanut paste.
We even had to force down the delicious apple strudel birthday cake for Jerome.
Super sinning day man.

hey grossness
As some of you may have found out (unfortunately), i'm on the Hey Gorgeous website, not because i'm gorgeous, but because someone took time out to sabo me.
For those who're not in the know, the website's to promote the Channel U variety show looking for hunks and babes in the various tertiary-level schools.
If you're interested, you can go find me under NUS. Unfortunately, i'm on the first page so it's quite hard to miss.
Anyway, don't ask if i'm gonna be on the show, cos i'm not. I didn't go for the filming, which is already done.
Anyway, not like i have the standard for such a show man. Talent show ok la i join, but a pageant-like thing isn't for me man.
So throw face!

no blood test!
I went for the NUS medical checkup today with Yeng Hian and friend, Justin.
It was, to my amazement, FUN!
We did the eyesight test, took our height (i have a new height, 171cm!) and weight and blood pressure, urine test and x-ray. Of cos, not forgetting the old zha bor doctor pressing the tummy and groin area.
Along the way i saw many familiar faces, but i didn't talk to any of them because i don't know them per se.
Oh, the nurse taking our blood pressure turned out to be Yeng Hian's neighbour staying in the same block. The conversation they had was quite hilarious.
Nurse: "Oh, you're staying in the same block as me!"
YH: "Is it? That's interesting."
Nurse: "Oh let me look at which floor you are staying in, is it above me or below me. Oh, it's below me. Ok ok, i thought i have to scold you because someone keep pouring water into my balcony. But nevermind, you're below me so can't be you la."
YH: -stun-
The nurse had to take his blood pressure twice because there was some weird sound. I suspect she just wanted to fondle his arms one more time la.
Then before that Justin's urine had too much glucose.
So i was joking that they each had one fault already, so later my turn. Maybe after the x-ray they found my ribs cracked or something.
After the whole thing, i was accosted by 3 different groups of camp facilitators promoting their individual camps. I ended up talking cock with one girl for about 30 - 40 mins. Boon Kian even joined in after he was done.
I was saying that even before i joined the school i made enemies already. I kept making fun of the girl's name. I couldn't help myself. Her name was Jitsy.
Ditzy. Dipsy. Gypsy.
Argh ok i should stop.
There's no more air-con in the office already! Time to zhao!
ps, Feather Keeper is fun! I'm at "F" now.
